My book club is considering this novel for next month. Does anyone know where I can get a list of discussion questions?

Thank you.

I am amazed and happy that there are others too like me out there. I too discovered the book when my mother got it from a book club when I was about 12. At that age there were a few things I didn't understand but as the years went by I did. I loved it and like someone else mentioned, I have read it almost every year. Now I finally purchased it from the Barnes & Nobles "hard to get" book site. Glad to know there are alot of book sites out there like that. The story puts the reader "right there" as if experiencing all the events as they happened. I only wish more books like this could be written.

So there are others like me....
I never read a book over again, but this one was an exception. I literally read it and re-read it until the covers fell off and the pages fell out. It was already tattered when I found it as a 13-year-old girl in a used book store. I've searched book stores and libraries for years for other books by Jetta Carleton, to no avail (obviously, since there aren't any). A writer of novels myself, I can attribute this life-long dream to write and share stories to this one book. I am so glad there is a following for it. It deserves that. And wouldn't it make a lovely movie...chick flick for sure, but there's a plane crash in it, so maybe men would watch! (Speaking of plane crashes, I will never forget the moment in the book where it says simply, "Mathy was killed." It was as though I had just found out about the death of my own sister. I was in mourning! Devastating.) And the scene with the fireflies is etched in my memory for all time.

I found this story in my grandmother's library of Reader's Digest Condensed Books when I was ten. Raised strict Southern Baptist, I realized that the story was considered a bit scandalous for that time, but I loved it and read it a couple more times before returning the book. I began my quest to find a copy of the book several years ago, not realizing it was out of print. The story has haunted me all these years and I want to read it from an adult point of view. Thank you for posting the reviews. I'm glad to know that others love this book also.

Thanks for posting your memories of the book. Of all the books I've covered on this site, <a href="" rel="nofollow">The Moonflower Vine</a> remains the hands-down sentimental favorite. I understand there is a publisher seriously considering a reissue — I'll certainly let site visitors know if that comes true.

As I've written above, this novel clearly holds a very special place in the memories of many readers. Thanks for your comment.

I first read this book in the late 60's when I was in Junior High. My mother received it in a book club and I held on to it for years and re-read it yearly. I like the above people have memorized parts of this book and love the characters. I still cry about the death of Mathy and the realization that Leonie loves the rougish Ed and also the sweet bittersweet love between Jessica and Tom. I think this book would be a great movie. I have just discovered Jetta Carleton is deceased and this is her only novel. What a pity. I love how she wrote and the descriptions just flow and I lose myself in the stories and never tire of them. I feel like I knew the Soames family and I love everyone of them. I enjoyed reading all the good things written about this favorite book and I believe I will start looking for it in book stores myself and give them away to people I love.
